BabelStone Phagspa Script Old Uighur Script

The ʼPhags-pa or ḥPʻags-pa script It was used to write and transcribe varieties of Chinese, the Tibetic languages, Mongolian, the Uyghur language, Sanskrit, probably Persian, during the Yuan era. For historical linguists, the documentation of its use provides clues about the changes in these languages.

The 'Phags-pa script is unique amongst Brahmic scripts, in that it is written in vertical columns, from top to bottom, laid out left to right across the writing surface. This follows the format of the Uighur-derived Mongolian script that Kublai Khan intended the new script to replace.

It is found in the fifteenth century compendium description of the 'Phags-pa script used in the fragment Mecmacu'l-cacāyib 'Collection of curiosities' that deals and its reading, as well as of the linguistic analysis, and with various books, samples of calligraphy, and other the translation of the Middle Mongolian text are possible.
